Exploring Architectural Illusionism in the Art of ART2D2's Alfred Galvez

In the vibrant tapestry of Filipino art, Alfred Galvez emerges as a luminary whose journey from a young admirer to a seasoned artist has been nothing short of extraordinary. His passion for the arts ignited during his formative years, a flame that would be nurtured and refined through dedicated education and apprenticeship.

Alfred's artistic odyssey commenced at the Philippine High School for the Arts in Makiling, Laguna, where he immersed himself in the rich legacy of Filipino maestros. His hunger for artistic knowledge led him to the hallowed halls of the UP College of Fine Arts, a pivotal juncture that would shape the trajectory of his burgeoning career.

A significant chapter in Galvez's artistic education unfolded under the guidance of Mariano Madarang, a luminary in the field and a key professor at the Philippine Women’s University. It was here that Galvez delved into the intricate world of restoration and conservation, a craft that allowed him to breathe life back into the masterpieces of Filipino art luminaries such as Juan Luna, Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, and Carlos Francisco.

Eager to expand his artistic repertoire, Galvez embarked on a transformative journey in 2007 to the Bottega Arte in Florence, Italy. Under the mentorship of Marco Cavallini, he honed his skills in mural and mixed-media painting, immersing himself in the rich traditions of the Florentine approach. The studio's renown extended beyond the conventional, incorporating architectural illusionistic techniques in ceiling paintings. Here, Galvez explored the transformative power of dramatic lighting effects, a skill that would later infuse his works with a touch of mesmerizing enchantment.
