Through The Looking Glass-Derpy Boy, Acrylic on Resin
This acrylic on resin is by Tisha Paculba (b.1991). Tisha paints in oil and acrylic and sculpts using mixed media. After graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts majoring in advertising, she worked as a designer for an export company that makes resin sculptures for home decor, where she learned to sculpt small figurines using plaster of Paris. That experience galvanized her art practice.
Her first foray into the art world was an exhibition at Art Underground titled "XX," San Juan. Her crossovers in the creative industry as a graphic designer and video editor are crucial to her artistic process. In 2017, Tisha started to pursue her Master's degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, where she learned different ways to express her art by thoroughly learning other materials through art research.
A few pieces worth mentioning is a video art exhibited at the Mono 8 Gallery, titled "TMAP-F-021891", 5x8 ft, projected on the wall. She used her body as a tool for her art, exhibiting her flesh as part of questioning the female body as a commodity. Another work worth mentioning is her open series titled "lipstick project." Using discarded and unused makeup, she creates sculptures and paintings using makeup and has exhibited them in Galerie Roberto and the artist-run gallery Sampaguita Project. Since the pandemic started, she has focused on producing art pieces described as lowbrow/pop surrealist.
