Description

Abohan is a functional and artistic homage to the traditional Filipino dirty kitchen. Crafted from Narra, Yakal, Ipil, and Kamagong, this piece serves as both a chopping board holder and a display for dried spices, merging utility with aesthetic appeal. Its design highlights the natural beauty of the wood, with rich grains and varying tones lending warmth and character. The inclusion of carved details and careful arrangement elevates this everyday object into a work of art.

At its heart, Abohan celebrates the charm of simple, communal spaces where meals and memories are made. The integration of dried spices adds an olfactory and visual layer to the piece, evoking the sensory richness of cooking traditions. Espejo ni Pinggoy or Pinggoy Generoso focuses on reclaimed wood and found objects as his main materials. After retiring from broadcasting he found the passion in creating and sculpting anything Filipino as his inspiration.

Abohan is inspired by the dirty kitchen, a cornerstone of Filipino homes where the essence of communal living comes to life. It represents not just a physical space but a cultural tapestry woven with stories, flavors, and shared experiences. It is my tribute to the soulful connection between food, family, and culture—a celebration of life’s flavorful simplicity.
