Description
Looc is a masterful wooden sculpture that celebrates the vibrant marine sanctuary of Looc in Romblon. Crafted from reclaimed Yakal, Narra, Molave, and Kamagong, the piece captures the essence of a school of fish gliding in unison. Each fish is meticulously carved, its individuality highlighted by the distinct grains and hues of the wood, ranging from golden browns to deep ebony tones. Their rhythmic arrangement exudes a sense of movement, as though frozen mid-swim, embodying life and fluidity.
The sculpture’s foundation grounds the composition, while slender metal rods elevate the wooden fish, lending an air of buoyancy. The interplay of textures and materials creates a captivating dialogue between the rugged and the refined, evoking the harmony of marine ecosystems. Looc serves as both a celebration of craftsmanship and a tribute to the delicate beauty of Romblon’s underwater sanctuaries.
Espejo ni Pinggoy or Pinggoy Generoso focuses on reclaimed wood and found objects as his main materials. After retiring from broadcasting he found the passion in creating and sculpting anything Filipino as his inspiration.
Looc is a place where the pristine waters teem with vibrant marine life. Each type of reclaimed wood used reflects the diversity and resilience of nature, a nod to the importance of preserving marine ecosystems.
