Fire Trees of Mount Naol nak, Mixed Media - Acrylic and Plaster
This Mixed Media - Acrylic and Plaster painting is by Alfred Galvez. Alfred Galvez started admiring Filipino maestros at a tender age until he studied at the Philippine High School for the Arts in Makiling, Laguna. He eventually entered the UP College of Fine Arts.
Galvez started as an apprentice of Mariano Madarang, one of the key professors at the Philippine Women’s University, under whom Galvez trained in the restoration and conservation of paintings of masters of Philippine Art such as Juan Luna, Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, and Carlos Francisco. Keen to develop his mural and mixed media painting expertise, Galvez traveled in 2007 to the Bottega Arte in Florence, Italy to study under Marco Cavallini.
Aside from the traditional Florentine approach to murals, the studio was also known for architectural illusionistic techniques seen in ceiling paintings that seem to transform the earthly realm with dramatic lighting effects.
