Description
Batumbakal by Espejo ni Pinggoy is a stunning table that embodies the strength and beauty of nature through its use of reclaimed Molave, Ipil, Yakal, and Nara wood. Its smooth, rounded tabletop exudes warmth and refinement, while the natural wood finish highlights the rich tones and intricate grains of each hardwood species. The contrasting textures and colors of the table’s distinct legs add an artistic edge, making it both functional and visually striking.
Inspired by the magnetic allure of "batumbakal" or lodestone, this piece symbolizes grounding and resilience. With its harmonious blend of organic materials and masterful craftsmanship, Batumbakal serves as a centerpiece that celebrates sustainability and the enduring connection between nature and design.
Espejo ni Pinggoy or Pinggoy Generoso focuses on reclaimed wood and found objects as his main materials. After retiring from broadcasting he found the passion in creating and sculpting anything Filipino as his inspiration.
Batumbakal was inspired by the natural magnetism of lodestones, which symbolize attraction and connection. I aimed to capture this essence by using reclaimed hardwoods, each with its unique character and history. Molave, Ipil, Yakal, and Nara together create a dialogue of strength, elegance, and resilience, emphasizing the beauty of imperfections in natural materials.
